Different picking units and excess and short deliveries? The warehouse management system knows how to handle this.
WMS and scanners replace paper
Energy also has a logistics process in the shape of cables, pipes, power reels, meter boxes and even partial or full transforming substations. Stedin, part of Eneco Group, supplies to, among others, project developers, contractors and housing corporations throughout the country from one warehouse and one massive external storage yard. It is a business that sets specific requirements for the warehouse and transport automation.
Multiple picking units in one system
Optimum network coverage both inside and outside; this was the simplest requirement Vanboxtel had to take into account. The difference in picking units – individual units, metres or kilograms – and the fact that it automatically includes excess or short deliveries made the issue even more challenging. Vanboxtel implemented a very smart Warehouse Management System that meets all wishes. For example, the picker now knows exactly how many metres are left on a reel and whether or not it can be loaded in its entirety. Moreover, the system supports efficient returns handling, including of products that do not contain a barcode, such as transforming substations.
Quick, error-free and efficient
The forms and administrative actions Stedin’s logistics personnel worked with until recently have made way for scanning and barcodes. As a result, they work faster and less errors are made. And Stedin has a constant overview of the current stock, goods flow and returns. The result for the network manager: a significant increase in efficiency and cost-savings.
