New construction and moving without interruption of the logistic processes

Clientcase: Castelein

Soft- and hardware for pertly fully-automated distribution centre

A total storage capacity of 30,000 pallets. That was the goal that logistical service provider Castelein had in mind when it constructed its third warehouse in Belgium. This warehouse has a surface area of 12,000 m2 and, at its heart, a fully automated thirty-metre-tall high-bay warehouse. It was built right next to the production site of Continental Foods. As its distribution partner, Castelein can offer this important client an even higher quality of service. Castelein asked Vanboxtel to set up the logistical process in its hypermodern distribution centre.

Linking hard- and software to mechanics

The project presented Vanboxtel’s engineers with some interesting challenges. Part of the storage activities is fully automated using the latest shuttles and cranes. Furthermore, Castelein and Continental Foods’ processes and automation are linked together. It is amazing to work together with the various parties and suppliers to make sure that software, hardware, mechanics and logistical processes are all seamlessly integrated. The new construction also made the project dynamic. Through close collaboration with Castelein and the suppliers involved in the project, by making clear agreements and by directing the process in the right manner, Vanboxtel was able to go live on the scheduled date.

Real-time insight into manual and automated processes

A new construction and relocation without interrupting existing logistical processes is a risky business for a distribution company. Castelein was able to minimise these risks by trusting Vanboxtel’s expertise. Even before the new construction was complete, we worked remotely and on site to tailor the Supply Chain Software to Castelein’s wishes and needs. Furthermore, the Warehouse Control System is now in charge of logistics. In addition to truck and hand terminals, there are also stationary scanners for the automatic registration of pallets. For Castelein, all this resulted in real-time insight into inventories and the manual and automatic reception, storage and release of goods and therefore in faster and more efficient logistical processes, quality improvements and cost reductions.
